New York City - Merlino 'Mer' Quimson from Gregorio Araneta University Foundation - De La Salle chapter1984-A batch, was proclaimed Grand Princeps, this past March 14, 2015 at the ComElec headquarters in Brooklyn.
The official announcement was made by the committee on election, co-chairmen, Modesto 'Ding' Dia, UPLB '53 and Dr. Manuel 'Manny' Chy, FEUNMRF '01, it was witnessed by members of the alumni association including Sigma Beta sorority sisters Paz Belino and Dr. Cathy Chy together with officers of the current administration led by GP James Sta.Maria, DWCL '86 and former GP Vic Villanueva, FEU Arts '77C.
GP Mer Quimson, an active member of the Beta Sigma community here in North America, always networking with brods and sisters at fraternity events in the Westcoast, Midwest, Texas and Canada.
A "die-hard" brod, Mer was recently in the Philippines for an Operation Big Brother project organized by NorCal Beta Sigma led by GP Bryane Ucol with Beta Sigma alumni associations and various organizations, the OBB medical mission, served community members in Sarrat, Ilocos Norte.
Mer Quimson led the New York delegation with Ted Quijano, UPLB '67, Hanzel Evangelista, AMACU, 'Tatay' Sta.Maria father of outgoing GP James Sta.Maria and Sigma Beta sis Janelle Sta.Maria, UP Baguio.
While in Manila, representing New York, he was renewing ties with brods and sisters at the 25th year anniversary celebration of the Manila South Beta Sigma Alumni Association, headed by Gil Bermudez of San Beda College.
Mer Quimson, is also the current Vice President - East, of the Federation of Beta Sigma Fraternity Chapters in North America, headed by Fed President Johnny Regadio from the University of the Philippines. NorCal and New York are members of the Federation.
The highly anticipated term of incoming GP Mer Quimson for 2015-2017 has been warmly received in the Beta Sigma community worldwide with greetings coming from the Philippines, Australia, the Middle East, Europe and North America.
GP Mer Quimson will formally assume the responsibilities and challenges of the office on April 11, 2015 when the oath taking and turnover ceremony with his new officers is scheduled to take place.
The Beta Sigma Fraternity New York Chapter Foundation, serving the members with family oriented activities and the community with its participation in charitable events here and in the motherland will be observing another milestone as it turns 10 in 2016.
